Translating research into impact

Wendy Red Star x NGV Triennale 2026
Following the recent announcement by Tony Ellwood, we are pleased to be partnering with Wendy Red Star on a new commission for the NGV Triennale 2026. Developed in collaboration with the Deakin Motion Lab, the multi-media installation will transform the NGV Gallery Kitchen and entrance space into an animated, interactive environment drawing on the histories, archives, and lived knowledge of the Apsรกalooke Nation.
Using colonial-era landscape paintings from the National Gallery of Victoria Collection, the work invites audiences to 'enter' the artwork as an invasive animal, prompting reflection on the ecological impacts of colonisation on Victoria's landscapes and ecosystems.
The project brings together research, creative practice, and public engagement through a partnership between Deakin, the NGV, and industry collaborators. Special thanks to Simeon Taylor, Leanne Willis, Katy Morrison, and the Deakin Motion Lab for their support and contribution to the project.

It was both a pleasure and an honour to be invited to teach in a documentary film class in Venice and speak with students about Australian documentary film today. The class I presented, Under the Same Sky: Documentary and Identities in Australia, explored the ways contemporary Australian documentary engages questions of identity, memory, place, and...

Mistinguett at Last
The marvellous Mistinguett is finally included in a major publication on film history โ and I could not be happier. In many ways, this moment sits at the heart of the work I have been doing for years: trying to bring women performers, popular entertainers, and overlooked screen histories back into visibility.
Transnational Trailblazers of Early Cinema: Sarah Bernhardt, Gabrielle Rรฉjane, Mistinguett was the culmination of more than seven years of archival research across France, Italy, the UK, and the United States โ though in many ways it grew out of a much longer commitment to understanding women's central role in the emerging entertainment industries....
This was my first conference immersed in theatre and performance studies โ surrounded not by screen scholars and filmmakers, but by theatre researchers and practitioners thinking deeply about live performance. It was also my first conference in Spain. Both experiences were energising and unforgettable.
